Zetsuen no Tempest is an anime and manga, as well as a light novel. A light novel isn’t something which is necessarily “Light” in all meanings of the word. Many light novels are over hundreds of chapters, each chapter holding a different amount. I know one (which I will blog a review on something) that has each chapter being (about) 17 pages, with 12 volumes, each volume holding many, many chapters.
The same goes for anime and manga, but that’s something to be explored by yourself so I won’t rant on about it.
Zetsuen no Tempest is about a boy who’s best friend’s adoptive sister was murdered. That boy was named Yoshino Takigawa. Yoshino’s best friend’s name was Mahiro Fuwa. When Mahiro’s sister got murdered he disappeared for a month while Yoshino acted as if nothing had happened and continued on normally. When Mahiro suddenly shows up again with a mad thirst for revenge, what’s to happen in this twisted world? One which truths and lies are the same, one which hypocrites and princesses come together, one which there is no right or wrong.
The official description is this:
Yoshino Takigawa and Mahiro Fuwa are two teenagers who start a quest to help a stranded magician at the same time strange phenomenons are occurring throughout Japan. Despite being a young girl, Hakaze Kusaribe is an extremely powerful sorcerer who has been isolated from the rest of the world by the rest of her clan due to her conncetion to a godlike entity called the Tree of Genesis. Her brother plots to awaken the Tree of Exodus during her exile to try to reshape the world without her interference. In exchange for the help of Yoshino and Mahiro, Hakaze will help find the culprit behind the murder of Fuwa's sister. Mahiro informs Yoshino about the epidemic, a curse that turns living things into metal, claiming sorcerers are causing it and that it's just the beginning.
“The time is out of joint. O cursed spite. That ever I was born to set it right!” “How much weight can a simple promise carry?” –Takigawa Yoshino “Isn’t absurdity of life the human condition?” –Takigawa Yoshino “I’ll do whatever it takes to have everything make sense again!” –Fuwa Mahiro “Forty thousand brothers could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum.” –Takigawa Yoshino “O anger, turn to heat, dry up my brains! This mad thirst for vengeance must be quenched…no matter how cruel and merciless I must become!” –Fuwa Mahiro “There are no convenient miracles and there is logic that should be inviolable.” –Kusaribe Hakaze “Miracles are irrational by nature.” –Takigawa Yoshino “Everything happens for a reason. The daily tragedies and misfortunes are all meaningful events, leading toward an ideal conclusion. With that in mind, there probably isn’t really any meaningless misfortune.” –Fuwa Aika “A girlfriend isn’t something you get just because you want one. You meet someone you like, and you want to spend time together. that’s why you’d want them as your girlfriend, right?” –Takigawa Yoshino “They try hard to display their radiance. Trying to let us know they exist before they disappear. I admire that simple, honest wish.” –Fuwa Aika “Just because it’s illogical, that doesn’t make it wrong.” –Fuwa Aika “Let us not burden our remembrance with a heaviness that’s gone.” –The Tempest “Only sadness can counter sadness.” –Fuwa Mahiro “Rumors, at times, can be more severe than the truth.” –Fuwa Aika “What exactly would change if I wanted revenge, was consumed by hatred, or went insane with rage?” –Takigawa Yoshino “To lose the woman you loved, not even being able to grieve… if not a tragedy, what is it?” –Kusaribe Hakaze “But even if I acted sad over it, nothing would change. Even if I cry, nothing would change.” –Takigawa Yoshino “Even if nothing would change, there should be things you can’t control!” –Kusaribe Hakaze “Even if he hates me, being able to die with the knowledge that the one I love will never forget me… there is no greater happiness a woman could desire.” –Kusaribe Hakaze "It's not over yet. If we don't end it, nothing can start. Even if nothing at all begins, we must still put an end to it.” - Takigawa Yoshino "It might be for the better if there are amusing people around me. Because any tragedy may seem a comedy, as long as I am with them." -Fuwa Aika "Dying is pointless." -Fuwa Mahiro "Butterflies have always been said to carry souls of the dead or to bring bad omens." -Fuwa Mahiro "We don't know if this world is real or a dream. Maybe the world until now has been a convenient fake. But magic will probably disappear now. The dream is over." -Fuwa Mahiro "Let's face the truth, without relying on any dreamlike power." -Takigawa Yoshino "There's something I want to tell you. A story about those who seemed to have lost something. But were able to gain something by coming together." -Hanemura "The actors on stage cannot ignore their scripts and do as they wish. If they make a beautiful exit, I feel they fulfill their role." -Fuwa Aika "To you, life was just something you acted out and ended, all according to someone else's script. That's why you were always quoting Shakespeare. However, Aika, I say that you were wrong! You did what you shouldn't have, and didn't do as you should have. Because you relied on someone else's script, you were wrong. I won't live my life by another person's script. Not by Hamlet or The Tempest. I don't know how many years in the future it will be... but I'll write and act my own ending." - Fuwa Mahiro "Lovers don't need words to communicate." -Takigawa Yoshino "The beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning. Well then, let us begin again. And to each, their own tale." -Fuwa Aika
